Fire bans lifted for RM of Battle River and RM of Meota

Aug 27, 2021 | 11:03 AM

The RM of Meota No. 468 lifted its fire ban this week as a result of improved conditions.

A fire ban has also been lifted for the RM of Battle River No. 438, following a period of intermittent rainfall.

The Battleford Fire Department looks after the RM of Battle River.

“We’ve been blessed with a pile of rainfall and probably more to come,” Deputy Fire Chief Geoff Thompson said. “I don’t think it is going to be that dry as long as it stays cool, and the temperature regulates itself from the heat that we had.”

The weather for Friday is forecast for showers and cooler temperatures of a high of 22 Celsius, according to Environment Canada. There is also a chance of showers on the horizon for Saturday, with more rain forecast for next week. Temperatures will remain on the cooler side.

As usual, people planning a controlled burn are asked to call the toll free number at 1-866-404-4911 to notify the Provincial Emergency Communications Centre in advance, and again after the burn is completed. The line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
