Attempted robbery leaves elderly man in North Battleford hospital

Battlefords RCMP are investigating an attempted robbery from Wednesday evening that resulted in an elderly resident sustaining multiple injuries.

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. yesterday, a male suspect armed with a knife reportedly assaulted an 80-year-old man in an effort to steal the victim’s truck. After a brief struggle, the suspect was unsuccessful and fled the area on foot. The victim suffered a broken hip and some cuts to his arm and was transported to hospital, where he is currently being treated.

The suspect is described as being in his early twenties, with short black hair and wearing a grey hoodie and black shorts with a white stripe. Police have provided video footage of the individual walking through a neighbourhood.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect’s whereabouts are asked to call the detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Double-vehicle theft

Battlefords RCMP are also asking the public to be on the lookout for another set of stolen vehicles, this time from the Cochin area.

A truck and trailer were reportedly stolen from the town Wednesday evening. The truck is a black 2010 Ford F-350 with an Alberta license plate of 73J-225, accompanied by a 2010 Sunny Brook Travel Trailer featuring Alberta plate number S92-875.

Serious collision on Highway 16

Motorists traveling on Highway 16 should prepare for an extended trip.

Maidstone RCMP are investigating a serious collision that took place at the Highway 16 and Highway 303 junction, just east of Lloydminster. Both roads are open, but traffic restrictions are in place. Police are advising drivers to expect delays.

UPDATE: The roadway is now open. One adult female passenger was pronounced deceased.
