Battlefords Community Players looking forward to new season of live theatre

Aug 25, 2021 | 1:17 PM

Local theatre lovers will have plenty of opportunities to take in some live shows starting this Fall.

Battlefords Community Players are excited to launch their new season featuring a number of popular plays.

There will be two one-act plays: The Foyer by Barb O’Neal, as well as Cowboys and Actors by the late Eric Anderson, running October 26 to Nov. 6. Then, the company is showing Here on the Flight Path by Norm Foster, Nov. 30 to Dec. 11. Next is The Sunshine Boys by Neil Simon, scheduled for March 22 to April 2, 2022. The season wraps up with the British comedy Educating Rita by Willy Russell, from May 24 to June 4, 2022.

Executive Producer Donna Challis is thrilled with the line-up for the season, with most shows fun and light hearted.

Both dinner-theatre and performance-only shows will be offered.

Challis says there is a 40 seat limit per night for all shows, as a COVID-19 precaution. People are asked to book their tickets in advance. Challis is also requesting people bring a mask, in case the province starts implementing restrictions again at any time.

A 20 per cent discount is available for season package orders as an incentive.

“We have been giving a discount to our season ticket holders for a number of years,” Challis said. “We’re encouraging more people to take advantage of it.”

Shirley Valentine this October

A special one-woman show is coming this Fall. Shirley Valentine by Willy Russell will run Oct. 1 and 2, 2021 at the theatre, with Saskatchewan’s Heather Macnab performing.

“We’re bringing her into our theatre so the community gets an opportunity to see the kind of show that Shirley Valentine is,” Challis said. “It’s a very powerful piece.”

This production is a separate performance, not by the Battlefords Community Players, but should be exciting to take in.

People can book tickets for any of the shows by contacting Battlefords Community Players.
