Council meetings to stay at Chapel Gallery in September due to Delta Variant

Due to an increase in the COVID Delta Variant in Saskatchewan, North Battleford council decided to continue to hold its regular and planning committee meetings at the Chapel Gallery until the end of September.

“There has been a significant change over the past few months with the COVID Delta Variant becoming far more prevalent. That variant is more contagious than its predecessor and is spreading quickly with people who are not yet vaccinated,” city manager Randy Patrick said in his report to council this week. “The Chapel [Gallery] supports better space separation of both council and staff members than does the chamber in city hall.”

Council initially planned to return to their chambers at city hall for the start of September.

Patrick said with council meetings now staying on at the Chapel Gallery until the end of next month, this will not interfere with the Chapel Gallery plans for an art show in October.

The Chapel Gallery has been temporarily closed since March 2020, the start of the pandemic. In November 2020 the city moved its council meetings to this gallery space for the interim so more councillors and staff could attend in person, with enough space to social distance and follow COVID-19 requirements. Meetings have been broadcast online via Zoom since March 2020.
