The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation will be holding their 25th Annual Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament (WPMGT) Sept. 13 at North Battleford Golf and Country Club.

The BUH Foundation held their official ‘Kickoff’ for the event last night at the Porta Bella Restaurant Downstairs Bar & Grill, thanking sponsors and community members for their support again this year, and the last 25 years of making the event possible.

Among those in attendance were representatives from the tournament’s master sponsor, Innovation Credit Union, including senior vice-president of consumer banking, Rosalie Payne who presented a cheque for $6,000 on behalf of the Credit Union.

“We really, really believe in supporting the Wayne Pruden Golf Tournament because we really believe a healthy community is dependent on the health of the residents within it,” Payne said. “Because of the money this has raised, people have been able to stay in their community and get the help they need which is really important.”

This year the tournament will return to its traditional format, following a ‘virtual’ event last year. Participants are able to register individually or as a team of six, to golf the 18 holes.

The WPMGT has raised over $537,000 for healthcare in the last 24 years. Each year, proceeds raised are put towards new equipment and supporting enriched healthcare at BUH.

Interim executive director with the BUH Foundation, Shauna McGifford said as they look ahead to the 25th year of the tournament, there’s something special about what the quarter-century milestone this year represents.

“Twenty-five years is a long time for a golf tournament to continue, and a lot of that is because of the support of the Pruden family and friends, and Battlefords community that keeps coming back, so it means a lot to us,” she said.

Registration for this year’s event will open at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 13, with shotgun start to take place at 11 a.m. To learn more about the Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament, or how to register today, visit the BUH Foundation website.
