Man arrested in North Battleford, multiple weapons seized

Battlefords RCMP have arrested a 26-year-old male on multiple criminal offences, including weapon possession.

While on patrol, the Battlefords Gang Task Force located the suspect Tuesday morning on the 1300 block of 97th Street, driving a stolen vehicle. A subsequent search found a machete, bear mace and ammunition for a firearm.

Staff Sgt. Jason Teniuk said this is another example of the importance of reducing the number of stolen vehicles.

“I know myself and Sgt. Tremblay have said it over and over again, but when vehicles get stolen, they are [predominantly] used in other crimes afterwards,” he said. “They’re difficult to locate and it creates some issues when we try to sort out the other serious things that go on when stolen vehicles are used.”

As a result, the man is charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of failing to comply with various court orders. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 4.
