Aug 3, 2021 | 2:06 PM

UPDATE: Free Flow Dance Theatre Company are announcing they will not be having the Sunday, August 8 afternoon performance in North Battleford that was originally scheduled. The show, called A Prairie Love Story, will be held one day only – Saturday, August 7 at 7:30 p.m., outside behind the Chapel Gallery.

Battlefords residents interested in seeing a live dance performance this summer will want to take in this production by Free Flow Dance Theatre Company’s coming to the local area.

Called A Prairie Love Story, the show will be held outside behind the Chapel Gallery August 7 at 7:30 p.m. and August 8 at 3:30 p.m.

Created by artistic director Jackie Latendresse, the performance combines clown acts, poetry, dance and live music.

“It’s very family-friendly,” Latendresse said. “It’s definitely a love story but it’s also a comedy. It’s a beautiful modern-day parable.”

Violin virtuoso Anna Bekolay is also participating in the production.

The story is about a city boy who goes to the prairies and falls in love with the landscape.

“It’s an eco-love story,” Latendresse says.

The show is being supported by the Chapel and Allen Sapp Galleries of North Battleford. Sponsorship is being provided by The Scene, as well as Dancing Sky Theatre Company and Sask Arts.

Ticket prices for the show are on a sliding-scale basis, depending on what people can afford, to make the show more accessible. Free low-income tickets are also available.

“Part of our mandate is to make dance accessible to everyone,” Latendresse said.

People can purchase their tickets online through the link provided here. Those who are not able to pay electronically can also make a donation at the event if they wish.

COVID-19 contact tracing information will be taken for all those attending.

Those coming to the show are asked to bring their own shade, umbrella, sunscreen, lawn chair or blanket and water bottle, for example.

This is one of the first live events being held in the Battlefords since the province lifted its COVID-19 restrictions.

“We’re quite excited to be able to bring it to the Battlefords,” Latendresse said. “We hope people will come check it out.”
