It was a big weekend for the Battlefords Minor Baseball program,as the Beavers’ U11, U13 and U15 teams made their way to provincials at various locations around the region.

The U13s had a weekend to remember in Estevan, as the team won all three of their round robin games, 6-3 over Saskatoon, 17-7 over Melfort, and 18-1 over Estevan; before also beating the Saskatoon Contacts 13-2 in the semifinals to make the provincial finals.

While the team ultimately fell 8-2 to the Maidstone Lakers in the gold medal game, head coach of the U13 team, Ryan Muyres said the team still had plenty to be proud of having come together to play some of their best ball of the season on their way to the silver medal.

“All in all we played well as a group there, and really came together as a team,” Muyres said. “Our bats came alive and we hit some big home runs at key times. It was just really great to see life get back to normal and see those kids get out there and enjoy some success as a group and build some life-lasting friendships.”

In addition to the team success, the U13 Beavers also took home two of the four skills competition events held on the weekend, including the Home Run Derby and the Base-Running Relay.
