Beavers season wraps with game 3 loss to Wilkie, after pushing top-seeded Brewers to brink

The North Battleford Beavers saw their season come to a close Wednesday night as the team fell 10-0 to the rival Wilkie Brewers in game three of their quarterfinal playoff series.

Despite the loss however, player-coach for the Beavers, Kyle Gregoire said, all things considered, the team can hold their heads high over their late season play.

“I thought we did really well as a team finishing off the regular season as the tenth seed there and still being able to take the top seed to a best-of-three,” he said.

“We knew once we got in the playoffs we had a fighting chance to go far, and winning the wildcard. Then forcing that third game [against the Brewers], the boys played really well and we really overcame some of the obstacles we had from the regular season.” Kyle Gregoire, North Battleford Beavers

The Beavers entered the league’s wildcard play-in series as the tenth seed overall, ultimately upsetting the seventh-seeded Unity Junior Cardinals in thrilling fashion, 7-6 in Unity to advance to the playoff quarterfinals.

There, the club met the top-seeded Wilkie Brewers for a best-of-three series. After dropping the opener 9-3, the team showed good resolve to bounce back for a 3-0 win in front of the hometown North Battleford crowd in Game 2, to force a third and deciding game back in Wilkie, Wednesday.

Wilkie will now advance to the North Sask River Baseball League semifinals, to play the lowest seed to advance from the other three quarterfinals series’ currently in progress.

The second place Standard Hill Lakers currently lead the Meadow Lake Sox 1-0 in the first wildcard match up; The third place Lloyd Twins and sixth place Macklin Lakers are currently tied 1-1; and the fourth place Kindersley Stallions and fifth place Border City Blue Jays are also tied 1-1.
