As the North American Chuckwagon Championships (NACC) wrapped up Monday in Lloydminster, there was a familiar face at the top of the podium, to chucks’ fans in the region.

St. Walburg’s Jamie Laboucane won the NACC Champion Aggregate, with outriders, Tyler McKenzie, Buddy Gran and Logan Pethick. In doing so, Laboucane and his team received belt buckles to commemorate the event, as well as the grand prize, a Dodge half-ton.

Laboucane said it was something special to take home the Aggregate Championship of the event, which ran July 11-19.

“It’s really special to me, as this has got to be one of my biggest highlights,” he said. “I’ve won a couple other major events, winning a horse trailer in 2013 and then a side-by-side as well a couple of years back, but this tops them all. This would definitely be top-mark for me to this point in my career so far.”

Laboucane finished the nine-day event with a total aggregate time of 10:20.34; just over two minutes ahead of his brother-in-law, B.J. Carey, who finished second, with a total time of 10:22.97.

Laboucane said finishing 1-2 in the championship made the experience all the more special, not only for himself, but their whole family.

“My dad kind of started both my brother-in-law and I out when we first started racing, so to have both of us doing as well as we are right now is pretty special to our whole family,” Laboucane said. “Either way we would have been happy to have pulled it off [finishing first and second].”

Also taking home some hardware on the week, was NACC Dash Champion, Logan Gorst with a time of 1:17.11, with outriders Wyatt Dyck and Rory Gervais.

Colby Stanley was named NACC Mentor Aggregate Champion, with a time of 10:47.81, to earn a spot at next year’s event.

With the conclusion of the North American Chuckwagon Championships, the CPCA schedule will continue with their next stop in Little Pine, Sask. Friday to Sunday (July 23-25).

The 2022 North American Chuckwagon Championships will be held at the Lloyd Exhibition grounds once again, July 8-16.
