BID Summer Festival planned for this August in North Battleford

The North Battleford Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) is holding its first ever Summer Festival coming up next month.

The event will take place August 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. along 101st Street, between 11th Ave. and 13th Ave. in North Battleford.

While the festival is usually held in the fall, since it was cancelled last year due to COVID-19 protocols the group decided to hold it this summer instead.

“It’s just easing back into the world without the COVID restrictions,” executive director Misty Lavertu said. “We thought we would change it up a little bit and do a summer festival this year, just to get everybody out and together downtown.”

People can expect to see a variety of activities at the event, including a number of vendor tables, with some home-based businesses. Others may offer baking or farmer’s market items, for example.

“Anything anybody wants to share they are encouraged to do so,” Lavertu said.

There will also be assorted summer food items on offer.

“Of course, we have our wonderful restaurants that are downtown already,” she said. “But we have our food trucks that are going to come out. We are going to have a kids’ zone and carnival games.”

The festival will also offer craft making and face painting for the kids. As well, there will be a travelling petting zoo here for families to visit.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to see many of the local businesses’ products available. The event will be a chance for merchants to promote their wares.

“We are hoping all the businesses will take part with a sidewalk sale,” Lavertu said. “Just everybody come out, enjoy the day, and shop local.”

The BID is excited to return to normal pre-COVID times and encourages people to come and explore what the city has to offer.

“We love seeing the people downtown, and now without having the mask mandate we actually get to see all the smiles,” Lavertu said. “We have a great downtown community. We encourage everybody to come out, bring the kids, enjoy summer and have a fun day with us.”

The BID is a non-profit organization with a volunteer board, currently representing 117 businesses and agencies in downtown North Battleford.
