The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) Branch #70 in North Battleford is back open for business, now that the province has lifted its COVID-19 restrictions.

President Marilyn Clark says that’s good news for the legion.

“We’re open for business,” she said. “We’re still doing the Burger Nights, but we are not back to catering yet. It’s a slow process.”

The legion also is not planning any fundraisers or any similar events yet at this point.

Nonetheless, Clark is still thrilled to have the legion be able to open its doors again to the public.

“I’m happy about it,” she said. “It’s been a struggle.”

In September, the branch #70 will connect with the local schools again to offer its poetry, poster and essay contest .

Then, the non-profit will start planning for the Remembrance Day.

“We’re hoping in November that we can go back to our traditional service,” Clark said. “But that is still pending. It’s one day at a time.”

She mentioned she is not sure if it will be safe enough to have as many as 300 or 400 people gather together at John Paull II Collegiate for a Remembrance Day service in North Battleford this year, so soon since the province eased its restrictions. But she hopes for some type of public gathering.

“We did it as a virtual service last year but we will certainly like to get back to the [standard] way of doing things,” Clark said.
