Seven from NBCHS named to Team Saskatoon for Prairie Bowl Series

This weekend a number of the top minor football players in the province will clash for the 2021 Prairie Bowl Series; and when they do, there will be a number of familiar faces to Battlefords football fans on the Saskatoon (and area) team.

Seven players from North Battleford Comprehensive High School (NBCHS) have been selected to represent Saskatoon Minor Football (SMF) for the series versus Regina Minor Football (RMF).

Two players: linebacker Logan Stolz and receiver Jackson Geddes will represent the U18 Varsity team; while four: defensive back Dylan Geddes, linebacker Carter Thiell, defensive lineman Daltan Gerstenhofer, linebacker Oskar Humenny, and quarterback Isaac Neufeld will suit up for the U16 squad.

Head coach of the NBCHS Vikings football program, Mike Humenny will also serve as an ‘area coach’ working with the offensive line of the U16s as well.

Humenny said he’s looking forward to getting the games underway, as it provides the players with a chance to get back on the field and play the game they enjoy.

“It’s a great opportunity for players to get back playing football after being unable to the last year, and the experience they’ll gain is something that’s only going to better our school programs moving forward come the fall, as well,” Humenny said.

“We’re fortunate to have some of our players crack these rosters, and I know the guys are really excited to compete this weekend and next. So overall, it’s just been a great experience so far.”

The Prairie Bowl Series will consist of two games for each of the U16 and U18 age groups held on consecutive weekends. This Friday, July 9, the teams will play in Regina before switching locations next Saturday, July 17, to Saskatoon for their final matchup each. Both nights the U16s will kick off at 6 p.m., with the U18s’ game to follow.

Next Saturday’s game in Saskatoon will be held at SMF Field, located at 1525 Ave P South. With provincial public health restrictions scheduled to be lifted as of July 11, the event should feature a strong turnout.
