A male youth is facing charges following two alleged incidents of armed robbery on Poundmaker Cree Nation recently.

On July 2, Battlefords RCMP responded to a complaint at about 5 p.m., June 29 of two armed robberies at a business off Highway 4 on Poundmaker First Nation.

After investigating, police determined a male entered a business with a firearm and demanded keys to a vehicle, but wasn’t successful. Then, the individual entered a neighbouring business, where he demanded and obtained a vehicle’s keys from the occupant, and then fled in the vehicle.

“The firearm was discharged during these incidents, but no one was injured,” police said in the release.

Police later located the alleged stolen vehicle at a residence on Mistawasis First Nation. Officers from Ahtahkakoop Detachment, Big River Detachment, Blaine Lake Detachment, the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team, Police Dog Services, the North Battleford Provincial General Investigation Section and the Emergency Response Team assisted to secure the residence, and arrested a male youth in connection to the investigation.

The youth, who cannot be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with several offences, including two counts of discharging a firearm with intent and two counts of robbery, among others.

He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert provincial court on July 5.
