Cool way to beat the heat

City fire dept. to offer pop-up spray park for kids to cool off from heat

Jun 29, 2021 | 10:02 AM

UPDATE: The pop-up spray park will take place today (June 30) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. outside Connaught Elementary School in North Battleford. People are asked to maintain physically distancing. A limit of 150 kids is permitted for the event. The city is asking people to bring their own water to drink, to stay hydrated.

The City of North Battleford’s fire department will have a pop-up spray park this week to help kids beat the heat.

City manager Randy Patrick announced the initiative at Monday’s council meeting.

North Battleford is forecast for highs up to 39 degrees Celsius this week. As well, Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for across Saskatchewan.

“We are trying to get a couple of locations,” Patrick said. “We’ll let people know where those locations are on our website.”

To create a pop-up or temporary spray park, the fire department will spray a stream of water from one of its fire trucks, to help kids cool off from the heat for an hour or two.

“The only issue is that it may be changed if there is a fire or the fire department is called out,” Patrick said. “It could be cancelled with zero notice, or even in the middle of the activities. But we will be putting it on the website. We’re just kind of doing it for this week because of the extreme heat.”
