A North Battleford Comprehensive High School student is getting $1,000 from RE/MAX as she graduates.

Jenna Humenny is one of 16 graduating students chosen by Western Canada to receive the RE/MAX 2021 ‘Quest for Excellence’ bursary. The program encourages said students to submit an essay detailing the contributions they have made in their communities, demonstrating exceptional skills in motivation, leadership, and communication.

“The dedication and motivation these future leaders display at such a young age is truly inspiring,” RE/MAX executive assistant for Western Canada Kesley Sheppy said in a release. “They have all made a significant positive impact on their communities, which is amazing to see.”

Shauna Kelliher from Lloydminster, Alberta, Estevan’s Kaleb Bechtold, and Emily Frostad of Regina were among the other 15 winners.

Kayla Petersen, owner and broker of RE/MAX of the Battlefords, said they were very excited to have a local winner of the bursary and grateful to have an opportunity to contribute to the community.

“Obviously a very hardworking girl and we wish her the best going forward,” she said. “A big congratulations to Jenna and we look forward to having more winners in the Battlefords.”

Humenny said she had applied for the scholarship after a grad coach recommended it. Among her activities included being a member of the Student Representative Council and done coaching and officiating basketball in the community.

“The biggest thing for me is in seeing all these things I’ve done after writing them all out, I’m very proud,” Humenny said. “I’m very happy that I could do good things for the community and work with a bunch of good people who also want to do good things for the community.”

“It’s important to work to create opportunities for others.”

Humenny said she will put the money towards her post-secondary education, as she’s attending the University of Alberta in the fall in order to become a pharmacist. This will include a couple of prerequisite courses. She said she’s encouraging the next graduating class to have a try at the ‘Quest for Excellence’ bursary in 2022.

“It’s a big project, the essay, but if you’ve done lots of things in the community, it’s something you can apply for,” she said. “I would definitely recommend it. It was very rewarding.”
