City having fireworks display at King Hill on Canada Day

Jun 23, 2021 | 11:46 AM

The City of North Battleford will be celebrating Canada Day on July 1 with its traditional fireworks display.

The event will take place on King Hill starting at 10:45 p.m., weather permitting.

North Battleford community programmer and Don Ross Centre manager Siobhan Gormley, with the city’s Parks and Recreation Dept., said the city wasn’t able to hold a show last year on Canada Day due to increased COVID-19 precautions at that time.

“We had to cancel them July 1, 2020, and we held them New Year’s Eve. So we’re happy this year that we can have them on July 1,” she said.

The city received permission to go ahead this Canada Day, which will be good news for everyone looking forward to the event.

Those who take in the show will still have restrictions to follow.

With the fireworks being held on King Hill, Gormley said people can view the display all over the city, while still following precautions.

“We encourage people to stay in their vehicles,” she said. “Vehicles should be separated two metres apart. And only individuals from the same household may occupy the same vehicle.”

To get a closer view of the event, people may want to park their vehicles along Railway Avenue, in the Riverview area, and around the Don Ross Centre parking area.

Gormley reminds everyone they are not allowed to enter King Hill as the area will be closed during the event for safety reasons.

The federal government through Heritage Canada is funding the fireworks show.
