2nd North Battleford Scouts wrap up year with annual car rally

Jun 15, 2021 | 2:12 PM

Off like a shot, the cars were ripping down the track Monday night at Library Park, as the 2nd North Battleford Scouts wrapped up their year with their annual rally race windup.

The evening served as a chance for the children and youth in the local scouts program to put their hard work building and designing their own miniature racecars over the last three months to the test, against their friends and in front of family to cap off the scouts season.

The ages five to seven Beaver Scouts created ‘Beaver Buggies’ to race, while ages eight to ten Cub scouts created ‘Kub Kars (intentionally spelt with a ‘k’), and ages 11-14 Scouts made special ‘Scout Trucks.’

The rally race windup has traditionally been held inside the Co-op Mall in the past, but was moved outdoors to Library Park last year to adhere to COVID-19 regulations.

“This year we decided to do it outside again because it actually worked really great in 2020,” Group commissioner of the 2nd North Battleford Scouts, Sarah Thompson said. “Families were able to stay comfortably separated and enjoy the nice weather while watching their child race as well, which made for a great evening.”

The winners of each age group – along with the first-out in each – received prizes donated by local sponsors, as did those voted as ‘best design’ for their age group by their fellow scout members, their families and passersby throughout the night.

Dominix Pye (first), Bensen Eliuk (second) and Jacob Picard (third) took the top three spots for the Beaver Buggies age group; while Sam Thompson (first), Xavier Prince (second) and Anne Prince (third), topped the podium for the Kub Kars. Julie Robbins (first), Henry Troxler (second) and Alex Hawley (third) placed top three for the Scout Trucks winners.

Thompson said they were happy to see such a great turnout for the event again this year, with every registered member of the local scouts organization out to take part in the evening’s festivities.

“It was awesome seeing all the smiling faces and just being able to enjoy some fresh air being out here as well,” Thompson said. “We’re growing back up again with our membership [following the pandemic] and it was great to see everyone come out to take part and have some fun.”
