North Stars hockey school to take place this summer

Jun 14, 2021 | 5:03 PM

Registration is now open for the Battlefords North Stars’ summer hockey school.

The team announced they will be hosting their annual hockey school in August this year, offered for each of the U9, U11 and U13 age groups over two separate weeks from Aug. 16-20 and then again from Aug. 23-27.

Featuring one ice time session, and one dryland (off-ice) training session per day, the camp will provide local-area hockey players the chance to develop their skills and conditioning, both on the ice and off, alongside the North Stars coaching staff and volunteering players.

Head coach of the Stars, Brayden Klimosko said the organization is happy to be able to return to offering the camp this year after it was ultimately cancelled last summer due to the pandemic.

“I think it’s all part of the plan of getting back to normal, so obviously we’re all excited and looking forward to getting back to business as usual in regards to the hockey school,” Klimosko said.

“I know the players are excited and want to play too, and this is always kind of the unofficial start of the season, so a lot of them are looking forward to being a part of it again this year, too,” the coach added.

Barring further acceleration of the provincial re-open plan, there will likely remain a limited number of spots available for each week of the hockey school this summer due to capacity restrictions allowed for indoor sports.

North Stars fall camp

In addition to the hockey school news, the North Stars also announced Monday the team will host their official fall camp on Aug. 27-28 ahead of the upcoming season. The top 40 players from camp will then also advance to take part in the team’s annual ‘black and white’ scrimmage game on Aug. 29.

The start of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season is set to begin Sept. 24, with further scheduling dates to be determined at the league’s official scheduling meeting later this month (June 24).
