The Town of Battleford honoured two long-serving employees and community leaders at council’s meeting Monday for their dedicated contributions in their work.

Fred Light Museum Manager Bernadette Leslie and Battleford Fire Department Chief Larry Gabruch each received a commemorative plaque for providing 40 years of service in their work, and continuing.

“Both of them have hit a milestone in their careers within the Town of Battleford,” Mayor Ames Leslie said. “It’s quite a feat to make 40 years. On behalf of myself and council, thank you very much for 40 years. You two have definitely committed to the town and [made] a lot of sacrifices along the way to make our community safer and a better place to live.”

Town CAO Ash Alam presented Bernadette Leslie and Gabruch with their recognition plaques during the meeting.

The plaque presented to Leslie from the town read: “Thank you for being a guide and mentor. You are adored, admired, respected and loved because of your simplicity and your helpful attitude. We shine because of you. Thank you for being our light.”

In turn, the plaque presented to Gabruch was inspired by the famous quotation: “The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out and meet it,” recognizing his years of diligent work with the Fire Department.

Coun. Alexis Christensen was among those who spoke to offer her thanks to Bernadette Leslie and Larry Gabruch for their efforts.

“Forty years is not only a career, that’s a community commitment. I just thank you for everything,” she said.

Coun. David George added that “40 years is a lifetime for a lot of people.”

“Congratulations, good job and many more,” he said.
