UPDATE: On Air For Healthcare Radiothon underway at local radio station: drive thru and donate

May 14, 2021 | 12:43 PM

UPDATE: The On Air for Healthcare Radiothon is still going strong today as it gets close to the final lap! People are coming by the CJNB radio station parking lot drive-through drop-off site, calling the Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation and visiting the online site to make their donations. The total so far is $150,000.

You can donate online at buhfoundation.com or by calling Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation at 306-446-6652 or toll free at 1-888-946-4284.

Don’t forget to give!

The On Air for Healthcare Radiothon is currently underway all day today at the radio station in North Battleford.

The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation (BUH), in partnership with 1050 CJNB, Q98, 93.3 The Rock, battlefordsNOW and presenting sponsor, Fisher’s Drug Store, are hosting the event, running 12 hours from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. on May 14.

So far, $23,400 has been donated.

People can drive into the back entrance to the station parking lot and make a donation to support local healthcare.

“We want to raise a whole bunch of money, as much money as possible,” said Nic Fransoo, morning show host on Q98 and Programming Director for the Battlefords and Meadow Lake division of Pattison Media. “The capital campaign this year is On Air for Healthcare: Advancing OR [Operating Room] technology—which means we want mending, healing, and healthy technology in our operating room to take care of us in our most vulnerable state.”

Funds raised benefit replacing two of the anesthetic machines in the operating room at the Battlefords Union Hospital.

While the goal is about $191,000, Fransoo says really “the sky is the limit” in how much organizers hope to raise.

This marks the sixth annual radiothon.

Similar to last year, the drive-thru donation process is on again, as well as a coin toss. Everything takes place in the station parking lot at 1711 100 Street.

People can also donate online or by calling the BUH Foundation directly at 306-446-6652.

This is the first time the entire event will be held totally outdoors, to maintain COVID-19 restrictions for social distancing. All broadcasting will be done live outside as well.

Claudette McGuire, BUH Foundation Executive Director, thanks everyone for their support for this year’s campaign.

“Anaesthetic machines or anything in the OR or any department within the hospital is an important [technology] to support,” she said. “The thing about giving to the BUH Foundation is it stays right here in this community.”

McGuire said all donations for healthcare through the BUH Foundation benefit not only “your family, your friends and yourself,” but also the community as a whole.
