There were no injuries reported following a house fire at the 2300 block of 100 Street North in North Battleford that started Thursday afternoon.

North Battleford Fire Department chief Lindsay Holm said the one occupant inside the building at the time managed to escape before fire crews arrived.

Firefighters responded to the fire after receiving a call at 4:14 p.m.

“When our firefighters arrived on scene they were faced with a very well involved fire,” Holm said. “The fire had already burned through the roof of the structure, and the roof was already starting to collapse.”

As well, the siding of the house to the north of the property caught on fire. But crews managed to put out that fire relatively quickly to save the structure. They also saved two nearby garages in the vicinity at risk.

For the main house where the fire originated, it took a total of 12 firefighters over four hours to put out the blaze that ended up completely destroying the structure.

Holm commended the firefighters for doing a great job in tackling the fire.

“They were faced with a pretty well-involved fire and they acted very swiftly and quickly,” he said.

Holm said the house incurred extensive damage in the blaze.

“There was a significant amount of damage, with the roof collapsing. The actual main floor of the house had burned through as well,” he said. “So I had to issue an immediate demolition order on the property.”

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
