North Stars’ forward, Jaxon Steele has committed to the Red Deer College Kings for the fall of 2021.

The Calgary, Alta., product played 26 games with the Stars over the last two seasons, after being acquired by the team midway through the 2019-20 campaign.

Steele said he’s looking forward to the opportunity ahead to join the Kings’ program and take his game to the post-secondary level.

“I’m excited; it just seems like a really good program, and obviously it’s close to home,” he said. “It’s a first-class facility they’ve built there for the school, and just talking to the coach, it seems like an awesome place and a good fit for me.”

Away from the rink, Steele also intends to pursue an education in Kinesiology.

Steele said when he looks back on his time with the North Stars, it will be the comradery shared amongst the team and friendships made that will stand out the most for years to come.

“I made a lot of great memories in the Battlefords and just being together with all of the guys I met there, that’s certainly something I’ll always remember,” he said.

Prior to joining the North Stars, Steele also suited up for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League, Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League, and Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League during his time in junior hockey. In 130 career junior games, Steele scored 25 goals and 59 points.

Head coach and GM of the North Stars, Brayden Klimosko said he’s excited to see Steele primed to take the next step in his hockey career.

“I’m excited that he got somewhere to play,” Klimosko said. “With the way everything transpired throughout the year [with the season cancelation due to the pandemic] I know he was excited to keep on playing and play at the collegiate level close to home. I think he’ll fit in well there for them and hopefully he has a great career there.”

Steele is the second North Stars’ standout to commit to Red Deer College this spring, joining fellow 20-year-old, goaltender Kristian Lyon.

Red Deer College is a member of the ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference). During the 2019-20 season, they finished second in the league standings, with a 20-6-2 record.
