The man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Sequin Mooswa homicide investigation had his case adjourned in North Battleford Provincial Court Thursday to set a new sentencing date.

On Oct. 27, 2020, Keenan Mirasty, 22, of North Battleford entered his plea to unlawfully causing the death of Sequin Mooswa on March 8, 2020 and thereby commit manslaughter.

A charge of second-degree murder in the case was stayed once Mirasty pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

Mirasty who remains in custody was originally scheduled to have a sentencing hearing May 6. However, Judge Daniel O’Hanlon said it could not proceed at this time due to the pandemic, as capacity restrictions remain in place. The date for the hearing has now been set over to Wednesday Aug. 11 at 9:30 a.m.

The court was closed to the public May 6 due to the province’s ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. Crown prosecutor Scott Bartlett and Defence lawyer Michael Nolin participated in the session by phone.

RCMP previously reported Sequin Mooswa, 22, was found deceased in a home on St. Laurent Drive in North Battleford on March 8, 2020.
