Horseback trail rides now offered at local Adventure Park

Blue Mountain Adventure Park in North Battleford is now offering a new adventure, with horseback trail rides.

Partnering with the nearby Sturgeon River Ranch, located just north of Prince Albert, Blue Mountain now features nine horses total, with six being used on a given trail ride.

Park manager, Angela Beatty said they had been working towards implementing trail rides last year, but due to the pandemic, had to initially delay the process. She said they’re happy to be able to make the idea become a reality this spring.

The trail rides began May 1, and are now offered seven days a week. Each tour is led by a guide and available for groups of two to six people per ride.

Beatty said getting out on the trail on horseback is a great way for anyone ages five and up to see the outdoors from a new perspective and explore the park grounds of Blue Mountain.

“You can have no experience or lots of experience, it’s really for everyone because they are trail horses and they are trained to ride in a trail,” Beatty said.

“We have over 30 kilometers of trails out here, so the guide will take people out on the different trails throughout Blue Mountain, and participants will get a chance to see some of the different bodies of water they may not typically get to see, and some of the other different sights in nature.”

Beatty said the trail rides will be offered at least until the end of the summer this year, with the potential to extend later in the season from there, and/or bring the program back next spring as well, depending on the community turnout.

Trail rides are offered four times a day in hour-long increments starting as early as 10:30 a.m., with the last one wrapping up at 4:30 p.m.

In addition to the trail rides, Blue Mountain also intends to offer ‘pony rides’ for smaller children ages 3-5 over the lunch hour moving forward, with the same horses.
