Household Hazardous Waste Day coming up in North Battleford

Apr 27, 2021 | 10:00 AM

If you have been waiting to get rid of some of your old household hazardous waste products this is the time to do it.

The City of North Battleford is planning its annual spring collection day coming up next month.

On Saturday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. people can bring their household hazardous waste products to the city’s public works shop, located at 11112 – 6 Avenue for collection.

The program is open to North Battleford residents only; no commercial loads will be accepted.

Some of the items permitted for the program include adhesives, aerosols, cleaners, oxidizers, poisons and solvents.

But items such as paints, oils, batteries, needles and medical prescriptions will not be accepted.

Products such as paints and electronics need to be taken to Sarcan Recycling instead or other agencies where applicable.

People are asked to properly label the items they are dropping off at the Household Hazardous Waste Day collection site, if they know what the materials are.

City director of operations Stewart Schafer said residents should know the product they are bringing, so the company disposing of it knows how to handle it.

People are asked to bring materials in their original containers and not mix products.

The city says improper disposal of household hazardous waste can cause serious threats to human health and negatively impact the environment, so it’s important items are disposed of safely and properly. Improper disposal of household hazardous waste includes pouring waste down the drain, onto the ground, into sewers or placing it in the garbage.

The city is asking residents attending the collection day event to remember to stay in their vehicles for the duration of the collection, and follow all COVID-19 precautions when dropping off products. Residents are asked to attend this event without passengers in their vehicles, and not attend if they are sick. For full details, see the City of North Battleford’s website.
