Battlefords drug bust seizes nearly $10,000

A drug bust on Wednesday by the Battlefords RCMP Gang Task Force has resulted in charges against one adult female and the seizure of drugs and cash.

The execution of a search warrant took place on the 1700 block of 97th St., where members arrested two adult males and two adult females in proximity of the residence. Staff Sgt. Jason Teniuk said the warrant was related to a nearly three-month-long investigation. A search of the premises yielded packaged cocaine, numerous cell phones and $9,700 in cash.

Teniuk said it was a medium to small portion of drugs compared to other seizures, but the amount of money recovered is arguably more significant.

“The cash is really what’s going to affect everything, because someone is going to be short money down the road here for this product that the police seized,” he said.

Kimberly Geering, 47, of North Battleford faces one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Of the four arrested, she is the only one being charged.

“It’s our best evidence we have, so that’s the extent of who will be charging,” Teniuk said.

The investigation is still ongoing and court processes will be undertaken to seize the cash, which if successful, will go to either the province or the federal government. Teniuk said, regardless of destination, that would be a good outcome.

“At the end of the day, if the cash is forfeited, it goes back to the government and back into the taxpayer’s wallet, really.”
