Drive-thru vaccine open in Lloydminster

Apr 20, 2021 | 9:07 PM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) announced late Tuesday the Lloydminster drive-thru clinic will be open Wednesday, April 21 to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

The drive-thru offers vaccine to those 48 to 54 only.

Meanwhile, SHA said in their latest Immunization Alert that effective immediately, AstraZeneca vaccine will be utilized in the provincial age-based vaccination program for residents 40+.

AstraZeneca is one of the three approved vaccines currently available in Saskatchewan, and with this change to eligibility there are no longer any restrictions on which vaccine can currently be offered at any of our immunization clinics, under current age eligibilities. This allows the SHA to utilize any of the three approved vaccines in any of our clinics to immunize more residents over the age of 40 faster, as vaccine allocations are provided to Saskatchewan.

The Lloydminster drive-thru is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 5521, 49 Avenue (Exhibition Grounds). It’s on a first-come-first served basis. No appointment is necessary.

Vaccine supply remains limited and drive-thru/walk-in clinics may close early when all vaccines are administered. Residents are urged to check the current status of the clinic, and wait times, at www.saskatchewan.ca/drive-thru-vax to avoid unnecessary travel.

For booking of vaccinations eligible groups include all individuals 48 years of age and older, individuals 40 years of age and older living in the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District, all remaining phase one health care workers, and people with underlying health conditions who are clinically extremely vulnerable through an eligibility letter.

Editor’s note: a headline on a previous version of this story was incorrect. The drive-thru is offering vaccine to those 48 to 54 years of age ONLY, not to 40+ as originally stated.
