Biggar man arrested on weapons charges after escaping custody
A man from Biggar, Sask., has been charged with 19 criminal offences after he escaped from police custody on April 18.
Shortly before 6:00 p.m. that evening, Biggar RCMP received a call that claimed an adult male in the area had pointed a firearm at another person and then left with a female youth in his vehicle. The three individuals involved in this incident were reportedly known to each other.
Officers located the suspects vehicle on Highway 14 an hour later, with the adult male and female youth inside. The man exited the vehicle and became a hazard to motorists on the highway, which prompted police to block traffic. After resisting arrest, the man was transported to Biggar Hospital for treatment of minor self-inflicted injuries.
During a search of the vehicle, RCMP members located a firearm and ammunition.
