Case for accused facing charge in Cindy MacKay death adjourned

A man facing a charge in the death of Cindy MacKay last year had his case adjourned in North Battleford provincial court Friday.

Michael MacKay, 38, is charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife Cindy MacKay of the Meota area.

Michael MacKay, who was arrested on March 18, had his appearance waived in court.

Defence lawyer Nicholas Stooshinoff said MacKay made an application for bail at Queen’s Bench Court in Battleford Thursday. Stooshinoff said he and Crown prosecutor Oryn Holm agreed to have the matters adjourned until the judge makes his decision.

MacKay’s case was adjourned in North Battleford court to April 16 at 11 a.m. to be spoken to.

According to the RCMP, Cindy MacKay was in medical distress on Feb. 7, 2020, and transported to hospital. She later died in hospital on Feb. 12, 2020.

The RCMP stated in their March 19 release that healthcare professionals raised concerns to the detachment while Cindy MacKay was still in hospital, prior to her death, which prompted the investigation.

The allegation against the accused has not been proven in court.
