RM of North Battleford issues fire ban

Apr 7, 2021 | 1:56 PM

Following the news yesterday the City of North Battleford would be imposing a fire ban, the RM of North Battleford No. 437 has issued a fire ban as well within the municipality effective immediately, due to dry and windy conditions.

A release from the RM stated burning permits will not be issued until further notice and ratepayers are asked to refrain from lighting burning barrels and garbage pits at this time.

Administrator with the RM of North Battleford, Debbie Arsenault said the burning/fire ban is nothing new for the RM during the Spring, although this year’s has come about a bit earlier in the season.

“It is normal for the RM to put on a burning ban, but this definitely is earlier than normal because it’s dried out a lot sooner,” she said. “There isn’t really a lot of runoff and then the windy conditions just make it even more dangerous.”

Arsenault added the ban can last for a varied amount of time, as it is dependent on the weather.

“It all depends on the weather,” she said. “Whether there’s any rain or snow, or the conditions get a little bit less dry, that’s what’s needed.”
