Mar 25, 2021 | 5:01 PM

Saskatchean RCMP has requested that Saskatoon Police Service conduct the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a 30-year-old female from North Battleford.

North Battleford RCMP had arrested the woman on March 24 without incident, just after 4:30 p.m., in relation to an ongoing investigation. After the she was transported to the North Battleford RCMP Detachment, officers determined she required medical care.

The woman was then transported to Battlefords Union Hospital at 7:15 p.m. At 10:00 p.m., the RCMP officer accompanying the female observed she was in medical distress and immediately began lifesaving efforts, calling for assistance from hospital medical staff. The woman was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:30 p.m.

As per the RCMP’s independent external investigation policy, the request that Saskatoon Police Service conduct the investigation was made and the Saskatchewan Health Authority is also conducting a review of the incident.

In addition, RCMP have requested the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer. As the matter is the subject of an external investigation, no further information is being made available at this time.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time. Her family has been notified of her death and Victim Services have been made available.
