Chris Beaudry mental health livestream to take place next week

Former Humboldt Broncos coach, Chris Beaudry will be speaking about the importance of mental health next Thursday, March 25, via Dekker Centre live stream at 3 p.m.

Beaudry, who was an assistant coach with the 2017-18 Broncos team who were tragically involved in the bus crash that killed 16 players and staff, has since been dedicated to the field of mental health and healing.

In addition to helping to create the first online mental wellness course for students, and currently working with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Beaudry also uses his platform to tell others of his mental health journey.

By sharing his story, and some of the tools that have helped him get to where he is today with his mental health, Beaudry hopes he can help others as well.

“Our stories aren’t really that different from one another, and when we listen to someone we’re not really just listening to their story, but we’re [also] listening to our own through someone else’s words,” he said. “When we relate to that, it can be a doorway to healing.”

After all, it was the support Beaudry received when he was in need that inspired him to start sharing his own story. It was having the people and resources in place that got him through some of his darkest days to a place where he could then use his experiences in an effort to pay it forward to others.

“There were people there for me when I needed tools, and when I was in distress, so now I feel that who would I be if I wasn’t there for others?” He said. “That’s why I’m out here, just spreading what I’ve learned so that hopefully it can help other people.”

Beaudry said he hopes people of a variety of ages can tune in to the stream, as addressing the importance of mental health is something that has no age limit.

“I think it’s important that there are people of all ages because it will be the younger folks in the community who continue learning and then start passing it along to the next generation,” he said. “Mental health is as important as your physical health, because they really tie together, so this is something for everyone.”

The Chris Beaudry live stream is sponsored by Hawtin Plumbing Services, Maunula Electric, and the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group and will be available via ‘pay what you can’ donation. For more information or to register, contact the Dekker Centre or find them on Facebook.
