West Wind and Transwest will both fly under one name; Rise Air

The two airlines flying in the north of Saskatchewan will fly under a new name.

West Wind Aviation and Transwest Air will both rebrand as Rise Air, once regulatory requirements have been completed.

“It was quite a tall order to develop something we were happy with,” Stephen Smith, President and CEO of the West Wind Group of Companies, said in a statement. “Because we’re bringing together two different companies that both have their own cultures and histories, we wanted something new and fresh but also wanted to preserve the legacy of both organizations and pay homage to our roots in the north.”

The bird logo is a homage to the Transwest logo, while using the grey from West Wind’s logo, and the blue to represent the vibrant skies the Rise Air planes will fly through. The bird also has seven feathers to represent the ownership from seven northern communities and two for the other ownership group.

“This whole process was really driven by our people,” Smith said. “We started this journey by talking to our people: our employees, our customers and our northern communities. We asked for feedback, and our employees submitted over 140 names for consideration, one of which was Rise Air. One employee took the time to submit a sketch for a proposed logo. As soon as we saw it, we knew we had something special.”

The rebranding will include a top-to-bottom redesign of all the company’s branded materials and equipment. Following the completion of certain regulatory requirements, the website and social media pages will be launched in the coming weeks, and new business cards will be ordered, but more complex and expensive upgrades like planes and signage will be phased in over time.

“You will see three different logos for a while as we transition everything,” Smith said. “Keeping costs down is a priority for us, and we are planning to transition some things more organically as they need replacing. We are okay with being patient during this process.
