Pedestrian injured in North Battleford collision with vehicle

Battlefords RCMP are completing the investigation of a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian that occurred in North Battleford yesterday evening.

The incident took place at the intersection of Territorial Drive and 8th Avenue. One motorist pulled over, after noticing a young woman pushing a shopping kart in the north bound lane of Territorial Drive, wearing dark clothing. While calling 911, recognizing that the individual was at risk of being hit, the motorist witnessed another vehicle come along, resulting in that exact outcome.

“While the collision speed was well within the speed limit, the young women was seriously injured,” Staff Sgt. Jason Teniuk said. “However, she was transported to Saskatoon and we expect her to make a full recovery.”

Traffic was temporarily restricted between 13th Avenue and Carlton Drive, until the scene was cleared. While there are still some statements to be taken, Teniuk said the driver of the vehicle who hit the pedestrian will not be charged.

“It was an unfortunate accident, for both the woman hit and for those who witnessed it,” he said. “However, there’s no grounds for charges.”

Teniuk said the RCMP were grateful for the women who took the time to call them upon noticing the younger female who ended up being injured.

“Any time we can empower the community to help us do our job, that’s a very important aspect of where policing is and where policing is going.”
