Mirasty case adjourned to set a date for sentencing

Jan 18, 2021 | 11:43 AM

The man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Sequin Mooswa homicide investigation had his case adjourned in North Battleford Provincial Court Monday to set a sentencing date.

On Oct. 27, Keenan Mirasty, 22, of North Battleford entered his plea to unlawfully cause the death of Sequin Mooswa on March 8, 2020 and thereby commit manslaughter.

A charge of second-degree murder in the case was stayed once Mirasty pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

Mirasty who remains in custody will return to court Feb. 22, 2021 at 11 a.m. when a date for sentencing is expected to set.

The court was closed to the public Jan. 18 due to the province’s increased COVID-19 restrictions in place. Crown prosecutor Scott Bartlett and Defence lawyer Michael Nolin participated in the session by phone. Mirasty’s attendance was waived.

RCMP previously reported Sequin Mooswa, 22, was found deceased in a home on St. Laurent Drive in North Battleford on March 8, 2020.
