The Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association (Lloyd Ex) has received a $1,000,000 grant from the Alberta government.

The grant will advance the association’s acquisition of City of Lloydminster property directly north of the current Lloyd Ex property. The grant application took place in early 2020 in order to secure land for future growth and expansion. Lloyd Ex President Ron Weaver said the grant is a strong endorsement of the organization and the impact it has on the area.

“We are pleased the Alberta government shares our vision for the potential this land expansion has for the community of Lloydminster and area,” he said. “This vision has been in place for the past number of years and it’s gratifying to see all the hard work come to fruition.”

Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women for Alberta Leela Sharon Aheer said the government’s Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) is meant to help build up communities by working with partners in those areas. The efforts of Lloyd Ex to contribute matching dollars to a project that will expand their community hub is a key factor in choosing to ward the grant funding.

“Now more than ever, we need projects that stimulate job growth and economic activities, while addressing community needs,” Aheer said.

All proceeds from the grant will go directly to the purchase of the land, with support from the city. Mayor Gerald Aalbers, who was present at the grant announcement with Weaver, General Manager Jenelle Saskiw and MLA Garth Rowswell, said the investment from the Alberta government will allow Lloyd Ex to expand and build on what they have, which will significantly contribute to the betterment of the area.

“Ultimately, the funding will enable the association to continue providing string and sustainability to the community, and thrive as one of Western Canada’s premiere event destinations,” Aalbers said.

Lloyd Ex hosts numerous agricultural, festive and sporting events, such as the CPCA Finals.
