‘Stay cautious’ advice from government on Boxing Day

Stay cautious when visiting retail locations and don’t hang around.

That’s the simple advice coming from the Government of Saskatchewan today as many of us think about heading out for Boxing Day sales, or take a post-Christmas away-from-the-home retail walkabout.

In a Tweet this morning the government asked everyone to respect the rules businesses have in place.

“Wear a mask and leave as soon as you have made your purchase. Staff members are not included in the capacity limit,.” it said.

As of Dec. 25, new stricter protocols were in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan. Retail services (essential and non-essential) must reduce their capacity to 50 per cent as prescribed in the public health order. Large big box retailers, as defined in the public health order, must reduce to 25 per cent of capacity.

As of Dec.24, when the most recent daily figures were reported, there were 154 new cases and four further deaths. Total fatalities have reached 134 and the total case count since the pandemic arrived in this province stands 14,255, with 10,775 people having recovered. There are 3,346 current active cases.

The next daily COVID-19 report is expected Sunday.

For those looking to go out today for a bite and festive tipple, here’s a reminder of the key rules for all restaurants and licensed establishments (bars, taverns, nightclubs):

Limited to seat four at a single table.

If there are impermeable barriers between the tables, tables must be placed two metres apart. If there are no impermeable barriers between tables, there must be a three metre distance between all tables.

Restaurants and licensed establishments must maintain guest/reservation information on all patrons.
