While enjoying the festivities of the Christmas season, property owners in North Battleford also have to remember to pay their taxes.

The city is reminding local property owners that have unpaid 2020 tax balances by December 31 will become arrears on New Year’s Day. This will make the arrears subject to a 10 per cent penalty.

Payment options through city hall include in-person, mail and the secure drop box, located at the door closest to the corner of 13th Avenue and 101st Street. Residents can also go through their banking institution, which takes up to 48 hours. Communications Administrator Duncan MacDonald said paying in person should be considered the last option and comes with instructions that must be followed.

“[You] can pay with cash, cheque or debit,” MacDonald said. “Anyone who is sick should not visit city hall and wearing a mask is mandatory.”

Any residents intending to pay in-person must do so before Christmas Day, as city hall will be closed December 25-28.

“City hall will [also] be closing early on December 24 and 31 at 3 p.m.,” MacDonald added.

Property owners also have the option of the Tax Installment Payment Program Service which averages tax bills into monthly payments. However, all outstanding taxes must be paid prior to joining the program.

More information is available on the city’s website.
