NBCK Band accepts resignation from Michal Alstad

The association between the North Battleford City Kinsmen Band and director Michael Alstad is no more.

In a statement provided to battlefordsNOW, the board of directors of the NBCK Band Association said its accepted the resignation of Alstad as music director and general manager.

This follows last week’s news that the former band director had settled a sexual abuse lawsuit brought forward by a former student from his time teaching in the United States. Per the board’s statement, no further statements on the matter will be made due to privacy concerns.

Heading into 2020, the NBCK Band plans to move forward once it is possible under the current mandate from the province. According to Association President Amy Francais, the board has put in a job posting for the vacant position.

“Depending on what COVID-19 restrictions allow for January, we will begin rehearsals in the New Year,” she said.

battlefordsNOW has reached out to Alstad’s legal representation to learn if he would be making any statements regarding his future.

He was the NBCK Band director from 1992-1999, returning to the role in 2018.
