Guided Twinkle Tour cancelled; moved to virtual format

Dec 15, 2020 | 12:17 PM

The guided Twinkle Tour 2020 has been cancelled this year, due to COVID-19.

Communications Administrator with the City of North Battleford, Dustin MacDonald said the decision was not made lightly, but was ultimately deemed necessary, due to the state of the ongoing pandemic.

“We want to do our part to ensure that we’re avoiding any gatherings, to prevent the community spread of COVID-19,” MacDonald said. “The health and safety of all residents is paramount to us, and we don’t want to present any opportunity for people to gather at an event like this.”

Despite the cancellation of the guided tour, residents are still encouraged to decorate their homes.

In addition to the regular prizes for best-decorated street and best-decorated house, there will also be an additional two best-decorated house prizes, recognizing the top three this year. Prize winners will be announced Thursday.

Residents are also still encouraged to take their own individual tours through the city as well. A map will still be provided on the city website, highlighting a course through the community to see the seasonal light displays.

The city of North Battleford will also be offering a virtual tour of the community, for those who wish to take in the experience from the comfort and safety of their own home.

The map route is expected to be released Thursday on the city website. The virtual tour will also be available for viewing on the city website Thursday, and on the cityofnb YouTube channel.
