City council passes proposed budget with one per cent tax increase for capital

Council approved that the reduced amount from both the Battlefords Transit and Handi-bus Systems be transferred toward the purchase of a new Handi-bus, about $35,000.

Among third party grants, council approved a request from Concern For Youth for $5,000 and from Midwest Food Resources for $3,000.

As part of its Dekker Centre support, council agreed to an added challenge for the organization to continue to look for efficiencies in their operations for about $7,390 for 2021, as proposed previously.

Council agreed to a new Community Safety Officer (CSO) deputy commander position be added to the budget as proposed by administration.

As well, council decided to defer proposals at this time for seniors’ outdoor fitness equipment and to renovate the bottom floor of the Allen Sapp Gallery to create an exhibit area.

Council agreed to have acoustic sound improved for the Chapel Gallery at $25,000, an item that has been requested for a number of years.

In addition, council carried a proposal that any remaining Saskatchewan Municipal Economic Enhancement Program (MEEP) funding be used, if the purchase qualifies under the program, to fund the purchase of a trailer for the Waste Management Facility, to a maximum of $30,000.
