Onion Lake RCMP search for armed, dangerous suspects

Dec 9, 2020 | 4:04 PM

Onion Lake RCMP are asking for public assistance in locating four individuals fleeing from police.

Tuesday evening, law enforcement received information from another detachment about a vehicle that fled from police near Paradise Hill. The van was believed to have a wanted, dangerous male inside.

Following attempts by Onion Lake RCMP to stop the vehicle before it headed north on Highway 17, the van entered a roadway and pulled into a driveway of a residence. Officers witnessed seven occupants exit the vehicle and flee on foot toward the bushes. The male driver was seen in possession of a firearm, police said in a media release.

Police took two adult females and the adult male into custody, the latter whom officers believed to be dangerous and wanted on warrants. All three are from Onion Lake First Nation, while the identities of the other four suspects are unknown at this time. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of two firearms, ammunition, several edged weapons and drugs.

RCMP detachments set up containment to secure the area, with Lloydminster Rescue Squad providing support to search for the remaining suspects. Multiple detachments and police groups continue to work together in the search and residents in the Onion Lake area can expect to see an increased police presence for some time.

Investigators believe the remaining four suspects are armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information about their location is asked to call 911 and Onion Lake RCMP are reminding residents in the community to report any suspicious activity, crimes in progress, or any information relating to this incident to local police or Crime Stoppers.

The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available. Charges are anticipated.
