BOB Awards recognize the best in Battlefords and area

Nov 27, 2020 | 9:09 AM

The community has spoken. With over 198,000 votes submitted online, the 2021 Best of the Best (BOB) Awards have been decided.

As has become customary over the past four years, battlefordsNOW readers have shown tremendous interest in recognizing the greatest businesses, people, places, events and things in the Battlefords area.

“There were actually more than 6,700 nominations this year. I think its awesome so many people took time to vote in all of the categories we had. It goes to show the winners truly are the best of the best,” said battlefordsNOW sales manager Kelly Bitner.

The BOB awards were started by the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group (JPBG) as a way to recognize local businesses for their hard work and dedication. There are more than 250 categories and the voting process which is held over the course of three weeks, helps to separate the best from the rest.

“We wanted to inject positivity into the community in a way that can recognize organizations or businesses that may not otherwise be recognized for their good work,” Bitner said.

Winners from some of the most popular categories this year include:

Best Real Estate Office: Dream Realty

Best Pharmacy: Fishers Drug Store

Best Place to Get Flower: Milbanke Flowers

Best Ag Equipment: Parkland Farm Equipment

Best Dressed Female: Beverly Pesony

Best Dressed Male: Derek Schmidt

Best Local Dancer: Delaney Cheyne

Best Insurance Office: North Battleford Agencies

Several recipients picked up awards in multiple categories including Guy’s Furniture for Best Furniture/Home Décor store, Best Appliance store and Best Mattress store. Northern Nurseries received awards for Best Customer Service, Friendly Staff, Best Place to Work, Best Social Media Account and Best Place to buy a Gift.

“Every year we see new categories, new nominees and new winners and because the awards are chosen by your customers, your peers and your community, it really says a lot about the people, organizations and businesses who have won,” said Mike Aimoe, JPBG station manager.

In past year, winners of the accolades are announced at a gala and ushered down a red carpet to their place in the spotlight. Due to pandemic restrictions, there won’t be a gala this year, but recipients can find their certificates by heading to the BOB Awards page of battleordsNOW to download or print a copy they can display in their businesses or show off to friends online.

Whether the category was best new business or best community event, Bitner said this year’s BOB Awards will hold even more importance because of the way everyone has had to adapt during the pandemic.

“Some have had to completely change the way they do business, whether that be delivery or online shopping. They deserve the recognition because of the challenges this year has posed to all of us. People have faced changes too – working from home, limiting interaction, learning how to do things virtually. That resilience deserves to be acknowledged and with that it brings a sense of pride to the Battlefords and area,” Bitner said.
