Battlefords voters show up at polls

Nov 9, 2020 | 11:39 AM

Voting is underway in the Battlefords, with solid turnout despite the Government of of Saskatchewan giving municipalities the option to postpone the election.

Since polling stations opened on both sides of the North Saskatchewan River, residents have taken the time to cast their vote on the respective city council races and the North Battleford mayoral race. The city’s returning electoral officer Debbie Wohlberg said it’s been steady since they opened. Voters were lined up before the Civic Centre’s doors opened, she said.

“It’s Saskatchewan. People are very resourceful,” Wohlberg said. “If they want to get somewhere, they will get somewhere.”

Crews have cleared the parking lots at the Civic Centre and Alex Dillabough Centre, as well as a number of streets leading to the sites, and will be working to accomodate residents throughout the day until 8 p.m. when the polls close. You can hear updates on the results every half hour from 8 to 10:30 p.m. on CJNB.
