North Stars fall 5-2 to Klippers in Kindersley

Nov 7, 2020 | 12:36 AM

The Battlefords North Stars fell 5-2 Friday night, to the rival, Klippers in Kindersley.

Defenceman, Riley Little and forward, Ty Bahm scored for the Stars in the loss, while goalie Austin Schwab stopped 33-of-38 shots-against in the defeat.

Kindersley’s Hunter Larocque, Alaister Standen, Logan Linklater, Eric Sorensen and Kyle Ford scored for the Klippers, and goalie Matthew Pesenti made 28 saves for the win.

Following a scoreless first period, the North Stars opened the scoring just 1:16 into the middle frame. Riley Little’s first of the season – and first as a North Star – came on a shot from the blue line, to make it 1-0.

Kevin-Thomas Walters, who passed Little the puck on the play, also picked up his first point with the team, with an assist.

The North Stars may not have come away with a win in their season opener, but there were still bright spots on the night, such as when Riley Little (#22) scored in his first game with the team. (Martin Martinson/battlefordsNOW Staff)

Hunter Larocque tied things up for Kindersley just over three minutes later, on the Klippers’ first power play of the night, on a shot from the left circle.

Alaister Stranden would make it 2-1 Kindersley on a bang-bang play in front, before Logan Linklater’s goal with under a minute to go in the second gave his team some separation at 3-1, to stretch the lead out further.

Less than two minutes into the third, Eric Sorensen make it 4-1 Kindersley, after which, Kyle Ford’s first of the year made it 5-1 for his team on the power play.

Late in the third, Kindersley product, Ty Bahm would answer back with a beautiful shorthanded goal on a partial breakaway to make it 5-2. However, that is as close as the Stars would get on the night; 5-2 the final.

The North Stars will get a shot at retribution Saturday, when the team plays host to the Klippers at the Civic Centre.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast on 1050 CJNB. The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will begin at 7 p.m., with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
