One day ahead of the 2020 Saskatchewan Election, Sask. Party leader Scott Moe was in the Battlefords to promote candidate Jeremy Cockrill on Sunday.

Both the Saskatchewan Party leader and Cockrill answered questions on the election and the party’s record. Cockrill said he feels strongly about the positive feedback he’s heard from the majority of residents he’s interacted with.

“They’re really satisfied with the leadership that our government has offered this province, leadership through the pandemic,” he said.

When asked on what policies he plans to first advocate for if elected, Cockrill did not go into specifics, though said he would be following up on his platform ‘right out the box’ once at the legislature.

“We have great initiatives to make life more affordable in the province,” he said.

Moe acknowledged large turnout at advance polling stations and urged residents who have not yet voted yet to get to their local polling stations Monday.

“Support a stronger Saskatchewan, a stronger economy, stronger communities and families,” he said.

Noting the Battlefords was an important riding for the Sask. Party, Moe said an example of representation resulting in action for the region is the investment of the hospital.

“[It’s] the needed replacement of a 100 year-old facility and ultimately the expansion of that facility to provide services in a different way,” he said. “That was necessary and long overdue.”

When asked on businesses that have closed and houses that are boarded in the city, some located a short distance away from the campaign office, Moe replied there is more work to do. He pointed to exports as the primary source of what drives areas like the Battlefords, such as agriculture and energy.

“That’s why we are advocating to our federal government, to ensure [those industries] can expand and grow,” Moe said.

Poll stations open Monday at 9 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Locations can be found using the software at elections.sk.ca.
