Sunday evening, NDP leader Ryan Meili made one last stop before heading home, visiting with supporters of Amber Stewart.

The Battlefords NDP candidate and NDP leader attracted a crowd in the evening, where Meili took several questions from them about the electoral process. Stewart said she feels good after hearing positive feedback from her doorstep visits.

“People of the Battlefords are excited and they’re ready for change,” she said. “I feel overwhelmed by the support that I’ve [received] from the community.”

Stewart said she’s continued to hear about education and health care, as well as some talk about struggles since the closing of the Saskatchewan Transportation Company in the Battlefords.

“Really, the focus has been on seniors and kids and those seem to be the two groups that feel left out,” she said.

Meili complimented Stewart’s candidacy and her work in campaigning in the area. He said he feels positive about what residents have relayed to them.

“We’ve heard their frustrations, their fears and their hopes for a different approach,” Meili said. “An approach that invests in people, instead of going down that road of austerity, cuts and privatization.”

Meili briefly addressed Saskatchewan Party leader Scott Moe’s criticism of his platform, saying his party isn’t the one not accounting for spending. He said the specific issues is cuts to vital sectors.

“What’s missing in Mr. Moe’s platform is the investments that we need right now,” Meili said. “Cuts to education and health are bad idea any time, but right now, they are downright dangerous. It’s the time to invest.”

Jeremy Cockrill is the Saskatchewan Party candidate looking to replace incumbent Herb Cox. Harry Zamonsky of the PC Party and Joey Reynolds of the Green Party are also running in the Battlefords.
