Incumbent vying to retain seat

Boutin-Gervais hopes to be re-elected as Town of Battleford councillor

After already serving two terms, Shelley Boutin-Gervais believes she has what it takes to serve the community well if re-elected as councillor with the Town of Battleford.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to run again for council,” she said. “I don’t take the responsibility lightly. I speak up, ask questions, and provide my experience and knowledge, keeping the town progressing forward.”

Boutin-Gervais is proud of her work on council, making improvements to the community while also keeping an eye on the bottom line.

“We have done a lot of work in infrastructure, promoting and preserving the history of Battleford, and trying to keep our residents active and safe,” she said.

While serving on council, the incumbent has worked on a number of initiatives, including trying to make the community a healthier place for families and people of all ages to live.

Council has installed two new playgrounds: one on the campground, one in Telegraph Heights. They have also lighted up the walking paths, she said, “trying to keep the community safer when they are out walking.”

“We are working on a seniors outdoor activity centre, so things to try to bring the community together,” Boutin-Gervais added. “I’m all about keeping Battleford an affordable place to live, and at the same time being fiscally responsible and very transparent.”

As far as dealing with the COVID-19 precautions, Boutin-Gervais said council has been doing its best to ensure residents and town staff are kept as safe as possible.

Born and raised in Battleford, when Boutin-Gervais is not busy with council duties, she is employed with a telecommunications company.

Looking forward, if re-elected her priorities are probably best described as comprehensive.

“I think everything as a whole is important,” she said while adding she also hopes to continue to promote the town’s rich history as a tourist destination.

If she is successful in retaining her seat on council Boutin-Gervais is looking forward to staying the course.

“I’m energetic, and when I am given a task to do I do it with all my heart and soul,” she said. “I’m just hoping that, if I’ll be re-elected, to continue on with what I have been doing so far.”
