Oct 21, 2020 | 2:30 PM

The Battlefords North Stars have released their preseason roster, ahead of the start of the exhibition season, this weekend.

Returning Players

Just 10 players from last year’s team are expected to return to the Stars this year.

Up front, forwards, Jaxon Steele (’00), Logan Spence (’00), Dylan Esau (’01), Steven Kesslering (’01), Ryland McNinch (’01), and Carson Reagan (’01) make up the returning contingent. On the backend just two players, Timon Prexler (’00) and Walter Somers (’02), will return from last year’s club.

Between the pipes, both Kristian Lyon (’00) and Austin Schwab (’01) will provide the team with a solid backbone, featuring two of whom may be the highest-potential netminders in the league this season.

New Faces

Veteran forwards, Breydon Berthold (’00) and Mason Richey (’00) come to the Battlefords with over 150 games experience combined at the Junior A level.

Berthold has played over 90 games with the Alberta Junior Hockey League, while Richey has over 60 games spent with the B.C. Hockey League, over the last few years.

The remaining eight forwards on the preseason roster however, have a combined nine games played of previous Junior A experience. Tyler Cheetham (’01) is the lone 19-year-old, while Ty Bahm (’02), Jake Southgate (’02), Ryder Kenyon (’02), Patrick McInnis (’02), Kevin-Thomas Walters (’02), Silas Buijs (’02), and Tanner Klimpke (’02) will all be entering their 18-year-old seasons.

On the blue line, the Stars’ look to be as young as any team in the Saskatchewan League as well, regardless of final roster decisions.

Sophomore, Timon Prexler (’00) is the lone 20-year-old on the team’s backend heading into the exhibition season. Featuring no ’01 birthdates, the remaining eight, including second-year, Walter Somers (’02), and rookies, Wilson Steele (’02), Tristan Oullette (’02), Ethan Hayter (’02), Jaden Kim (’02), Tynan Ewart (’02), Owen Lugowski (’02), and Zane Florence (’02) will be just 18 this year.
